Lent is a time of transformation and renewal. That's what our sacrifices are meant for! We shouldn't fast from cookies and donate to the poor for just these few short weeks. Lent should inspire us to change our lives every day of the year!
Throughout this Lenten season, try to focus as a family on the deeper meaning of all your sacrifices. Let your sacrifices be less about saying "No" to something and more about saying "Yes" to Someone - Jesus.
Sacrifice Beans Lenten Activity
Help your kids visualize what it means to be transformed, to see all the good that comes from their sacrifices and small acts of love.
Here's what you'll need:
A jar or bowl
A bag of black beans
A bag of jellybeans
Place the jar and bag of black beans somewhere visible and accessible (like the dinner table).
Every time someone makes a sacrifice, does a random act of kindness, or does some small loving deed this Lent, have them take a black bean from the bag and place it in the jar.
Watch as the jar grows full with all the sacrifice beans throughout Lent! At dinner, each night, let your kids share about some of their sacrifices - and share some of yours with them, too!
Then, on Easter morning, switch out the black beans with jellybeans and let the whole family see the amazing transformation that has taken place in your home!
